[Characters]: Rinoa Heartilly, Yuna

[Character Name]: Shin Seijuurou
[Series Title]: Eyeshield 21
[Point in Canon you're Taking your Character From]: Around chapter 278, the most recent released chapter. He's acting as Kobayakawa Sena's personal trainer in preparation for the Christmas Bowl.

[Brief Description of their Personality]: Shin is... Shin. He's a very serious, very literal young man, who always takes other people at face value and always says exactly what he means. He doesn't realize that sometimes his abrupt and point-blank method of speaking hurts feelings, and because of that, he is honest to a fault. He has never been known to mince words, and you had better be prepared for the absolute truth when you ask him a question. Going along with this, if it's something he doesn't know, he will, without shame, admit that and consider the subject closed.

He's socially inept to the point where it could almost be considered a handicap. Because he's so straightforward people have a difficult time relating to him, and not many have made the attempt over the years to help bring him out of his shell. He will speak when spoken to, but unless he has something useful to say, he won't initiate conversation. You will easily lose him if you begin discussing fashion, pop culture, technology.. really, anything that doesn't have to do with personal fitness, American Football, or manly rivalries, and he's lost. He'll listen very carefully, do his best to understand what you're saying, but in the end, he'll likely admit he "doesn't know anything about that" and wait for you to either begin speaking about something new or go away.

Shin is a technological menace. It's not that he just can't use it, he sees things in a completely off-the-wall, unrealistic way. For example, he will look at a laptop and not see a laptop. He'll see one of those little musical keyboards attached to a squid-shaped toy, with a string coming out of one side and a toy mouse on the end. The world is a very confusing place for him because of this, as most things are made of complex parts. He finds himself lost quite often, be it in the city or the wilderness (once, he was lost for days in the woods, and ended up killing and roasting a wild boar so that he would have something to eat). Aside from that, anything even remotely technological that he touches will automatically be destroyed, somehow. Up to this point, he's broken a video camera, a GPS-tracking device, and a very expensive laptop, and that's just what we've been shown in the manga.

He has a very intense, very focused personality, and once he sets his mind to a goal you can't deter him. Literally. Also, as a frightening side-note, because he spent so much of his childhood being avoided by the other children, he never learned how to deal with normal physical interactions, such as an arm over the shoulders, or a hug. He reacts instinctively, especially when in uniform, with a spear tackle (his trademark move on the football field where he lunges with one arm out and takes down the opponent in a very fast and very powerful tackle) no matter who it is. Seconds after doing so, he'll realize what he's done and apologize, but people learn quickly not to touch this boy without his permission, or at least notice.

He's not a mean or scary person. He just doesn't know how to deal with people, and spends most of every conversation very confused, offering intense (and somewhat frightening) expressions to whoever is conversing with him, unless of course they happen to talking about working out or football. He's amiable enough and gets along with almost everyone who takes the time to talk to him, but he... doesn't go out of his way to make friends.

[Brief Description of their History]: Shin has had a relatively normal, if not a bit lonely, life for a modern-day teenaged boy in Japan. He transferred to Oujou High School in the first year, his family having moved there, and was instantly set apart from all of the other high school students. Serious and taciturn to a fault, he didn't make many friends, and spent much of his first year in high school thinking that no one cared about him or liked him. There was one other boy in his grade who noticed him, Sakuraba Haruto; they sat near one another and had lockers close by because of their last names.

Shin warmed to Haruto early on, though that would've been difficult for anyone, least of all Haruto, to notice. When his best (and only) friend joked about them joining the American Football team together, Shin agreed, and they tried out. There Shin's immense talent was discovered, and the coach made it his mission to not let any other sports team recruit Shin. He wanted nothing to distract his newfound ace from the football team.

Despite the fact that he was considered a monster on the team, both for his stamina and strength, Shin still felt that no one actually cared about him. Shogun, the nickname for their coach, treated him much more harshly than all of the other first years, putting him through advanced training that he would have normally reserved for upperclassmen. Shin withstood it all, improving at a rapid pace that was the envy of the other team members, though he didn't really notice - his attention was so focused that even as his best friend struggled to keep up with him, and underwent several mini emotional break downs, Shin either didn't notice, or didn't comment.

During one of their especially harsh training sessions at a camp in Germany, only a core group of players completed the rigorous run up a hill and to a castle. The rest, seeing that only Shin was pushing forward without struggle, came to the conclusion that they would never match up to him and so resigned from the team. Shogun began to doubt himself, and in perhaps the most startling instance of Shin showing actual comprehension of human emotions, he stepped forward and told his coach that no matter what kind of intense training he offered, he would always rise up to meet it. Through his own strength, he would prove that Shogun's training methods worked, and that the last thirty years of his life had not been a waste.

From that point on, Shin realized that there were people who did care about him, and he threw himself headlong into his American Football training. Their team, the Oujou White Knights, became known not only for its near impenetrable defense, but for the might and speed of the linebacker, Shin Seijuurou. It wasn't until an opposing team, the Deimon Devil Bats, brought forth a runningback who could run the forty yard dash in 4.2 seconds that Shin found a rival worth of his time, attention, and ultimately, obsession.

From the point where he initially faced and defeated Sena (whom he refers to as Eyeshield 21) in a match, he has focused all of his training on continuing to evolve so that he will be able to defeat him again on the field. Because Sena does the same, the two are constantly using one another as measuring sticks, and they have improved their skills to insane levels. For instance, Shin, who could initially only run the forty yard dash in 4.4 seconds, has improved his speed to 4.2 to match Sena.

After Deimon defeated Oujou in the semifinals of the tournament to decide which team would enter to Christmas Bowl, Shin was named captain of the team for next year. He has agreed to become Sena's personal trainer to help him attain a level of skill necessary to defeat Yamato Takeru, the real Eyeshield 21.

[Roleplay Samples]:

[first person]

........

Where is Eyeshield? I have never seen this place. It's not one of Shogun's training grounds, and it doesn't look like any of Deimon's team is here. We are losing valuable time before the Christmas Bowl.

.... I must be lost again. I'll just keep walking until I find a place to eat. Someone will find me eventually. They always do.

I wonder if the hotel has a gym. If I can't train Eyeshield, I'll at least be sure not to jeopardize my own state of fitness so that when I get back we won't lose any more time than necessary.

[third person]

Standing in the middle of the lobby with the key to his apparent hotel room in one hand, his football helmet in the other, Shin adopted a serious expression, trying to decide if he recognized any of the people, accents, or surroundings. When he didn't, he came to the conclusion that he had gotten lost somehow on the walk home after practice. That hadn't happened in a while, as he now knew the direct route from the practice field to his house by heart, but he had been in this situation enough times to recognize it for what it was. At least this time he wasn't in the woods; he disliked hunting wild game with only his hands, and building a fire wasn't always the easiest thing to do.

Shogun would put him through extra training when he got back if he was absent for more than a day. Despite the fact that Oujou was out of the running for the Christmas Bowl, they still held regular practice. As the new captain, it was his responsibility to be present for each one and make certain that the entire team was training to the best of their ability. They had been defeated by Deimon this year, but next year, they would surely go all the way to the Christmas Bowl, and they would continue past that to Nationals.

That responsibility aside, he also had the training of Eyeshield 21 to think of. Kobayakawa Sena, the ace runningback of Deimon. Though Shin considered him his greatest, if not only, rival, he had agreed to help him surpass his current level of skill so that he could face Teikoku's ace. His intentions were not entirely altruistic, however; he knew that his most intense training would come from facing off against Eyeshield, and therefore, even as he helped his rival improve, he would also strengthen his own body and skills.

Of course, the longer he was here, the less time he would have with Eyeshield. That didn't mean he could slack, however.

Mind made up, he approached the front desk once again, intent on asking the woman about the gym facilities of the hotel, if there were any.
